World Organization of Writers and Medellín Poetry Festival Sign Strategic Partnership Agreement

Today, the World Organization of Writers (WOW) and the Medellín International Poetry Festival signed a strategic cooperation agreement, affirming their shared mission to unite the creative efforts of writers worldwide in promoting humanitarian values, strengthening peace, and fostering intercultural dialogue through literature.

The agreement was signed by Margarita Al, President of WOW, and Fernando Rendón, founder and director of one of Latin America’s most prestigious poetry festivals. Their signatures confirm a mutual commitment to establishing a long-term partnership between the international literary community and the Medellín Poetry Festival.

The agreement creates new opportunities for collaborative projects designed to expand dialogue among writers from diverse countries and linguistic traditions. The partners plan to coordinate festival programs, organize exchanges of poetry readings and curatorial initiatives, establish translation laboratories, produce joint anthologies, and develop educational formats ranging from creative workshops to online seminars. Particular emphasis will be placed on supporting emerging writers, encouraging intercultural exchange, and promoting poetry as a powerful instrument of social engagement.

A landmark outcome of the day was the admission of Fernando Rendón to the World Organization of Writers and his appointment to the organization’s Supreme Literary Council. This decision strengthens the Council’s international expertise and provides fresh momentum for future collaborative initiatives. The Medellín International Poetry Festival’s long-standing reputation for openness to the world, commitment to social issues, and sustained engagement with local communities naturally complements WOW’s mission of supporting the living power of literature and promoting humanistic values.

In the near future, the partners will establish joint working groups focusing on key areas of cooperation, including festivals, publications, translation, and digital literary projects. They will also develop transparent mechanisms for participant selection and multilingual support for all programs. The partnership is expected to expand its global audience through cooperation with media organizations, cultural institutions, and educational platforms across different regions of the world.

The agreement lays a solid long-term foundation for the advancement of literary diplomacy and the strengthening of a global community of writers for whom poetry remains a space for mutual understanding, critical thinking, and the affirmation of human dignity.
