Global Poets Magazine (Special Central Asia Issue)

Camel Shadows on the Silk Road

Introduction

This special Central Asia issue of Global Poets Magazine, entitled Camel Shadows on the Silk Road, brings together the voices of one hundred poets from China and Central Asia in a landmark English-language anthology celebrating the enduring cultural legacy of the Silk Road. Under the editorial leadership of Editor-in-Chief Wang Fangwen, with Cao Shui and Sun Yi serving as Executive Editors-in-Chief, and with English translations by Cao Shui, the volume offers readers a rich panorama of contemporary poetry, literary thought, and intercultural dialogue. The opening section, “The Camel Bells of the Silk Road,” sets the intellectual and artistic tone of the collection through a series of keynote essays and addresses by leading literary figures, including Ulugbek Yesdaulet, Wang Fangwen, Cao Shui, Ashraf Aboul-Yazid, and Altynai Temirova. Together, these contributions explore the Silk Road as a living symbol of friendship among civilizations, tracing poetic connections from Li Bai to Abai, celebrating the spiritual heritage of Eurasia, and reaffirming poetry’s timeless mission of building bridges between East and West. Through its diverse voices and shared vision, Camel Shadows on the Silk Road stands as a tribute to cultural exchange, mutual understanding, and the universal language of poetry.
