The accused involved in the murder of freedom fighter Alhaj Md. Harunur Rashid Khan, former chairman of the Shibpur Upazila Parishad of Narsingdi, was arrested by Dubai Police on the basis of Interpol’s red alert and the Dubai Police sent a message to Bangladesh about the arrest. Later, a team of Bangladesh Police went to Dubai and brought the arrested accused to Bangladesh and the accused-Arif Sarkar (40), father-deceased Hafiz Uddin Sarkar, village-Putia Kamargaon, Thana-Shibpur, District-Narsingdi was handed over to the learned court on 06\/05\/2026 AD.<\/p>\n

The victim, freedom fighter Alhaj Md. Harunur Rashid Khan, was the former chairman of the Shibpur Upazila Parishad of Narsingdi. The arrested accused Arif Sarkar and other accused were involved in a plan to shoot the victim with a pistol at his own house on 25\/02\/2023 at 06:13 am and seriously injured. The victim died on 31\/05\/2023 while undergoing treatment. In this incident, on 27\/02\/2023, the victim’s son Amanur Rashid Khan filed a case against the accused Arif Sarkar and other accused in Shibpur Model Police Station Case No. 17, dated 27\/02\/2023, Sections 326\/307\/114\/109\/34 attached to the 302 Penal Code. First, the police station investigated the case. Later, on the basis of the plaintiff’s application, on the instructions of the Police Headquarters, the PBI Narsingdi District took over the investigation of the case on 23\/06\/2023.<\/p>\n

During the investigation of the PBI, one of the accused Mohsin, who was previously involved in the incident, was arrested from Dubai through Interpol and presented to the learned court. The arrested accused Arif Sarkar and other accused provided important information about their involvement in the incident and their plans. After getting clear evidence of Arif Sarkar’s involvement in the incident, the PBI Narsingdi District applied to The Assistant Inspector General (NCB), Bangladesh Police, Police Headquarters, Dhaka to confirm the presence of accused Arif Sarkar abroad. Later, after the presence of accused Arif Sarkar in Dubai was confirmed, an arrest warrant was issued against him by the learned court as part of the process of bringing him back to the country and an application was made through the appropriate authority to bring him back to Bangladesh through Interpol’s Red Notice. Then, after the investigation of the case, the PBI Narsingdi District filed a charge sheet against accused Arif Sarkar and other accused in the learned court on 24\/11\/2025.<\/p>\n

Later, with the help of Interpol, Dubai Police arrested the accused Arif Sarkar and informed the Bangladesh Police. A special team consisting of PBI and Police Headquarters brought the accused Arif Sarkar from Dubai to Bangladesh on 06\/05\/2026. Since the arrest warrant against the accused Arif Sarkar was pending at Shibpur Police Station, he was handed over to Shibpur Police Station at Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) International Airport for further legal action.
