\nDhaka, 10 June 2026 (Wednesday): This morning, the International UN Peacekeepers Day 2026 was celebrated with due dignity at the Army Hall of Dhaka Cantonment. The Honorable Prime Minister of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Mr. Tarique Rahman, MP, was present as the chief guest on the occasion.<\/p>\n
In his speech, the chief guest emphasized on making future peacekeeping missions more modern, visionary and technology-based. He praised the courageous and professional participation of women members of the Bangladesh Armed Forces and Police in UN peacekeeping operations and paid deep respect to the peacekeepers who sacrificed themselves to establish world peace. At the same time, he recalled the historical role of the Bangladesh Army in the Great Liberation War.<\/p>\n
At the event, the Prime Minister honored the family members of six soldiers who were martyred in Sudan in 2025 while serving in the UN peacekeeping mission. In addition, he also presented awards to members of the armed forces who were injured while performing their duties in various peacekeeping missions, including that attack. Later, he virtually connected with Bangladeshi peacekeepers deployed in various countries and exchanged views with them. It is worth noting that the welcoming speech was delivered by the UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh.<\/p>\n
