Joint forces conduct special operation de Jungle Salimpur area of Sitakunda, Bangladesh: 22 arrested along with huge quantity of weapons

A large special operation was conducted by the joint forces on 09 March 2026 at 5:30 am in the Jungle Salimpur (Chinnamul/Alinagar) area of Sitakunda Upazila of Chattogram district in view of the allegations of long-standing terrorist activities, illegal weapons hoarding, sale of plots by cutting mountains and use as a shelter for criminals. A total of 3,183 members of various law enforcement forces including Bangladesh Army, Chittagong District Police, Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), APBN, RRF participated in this operation conducted as per the decision of the Divisional Law and Order Committee. In addition, 7 executive magistrates were responsible for the operation.
03 helicopters, 15 APCs, 03 dog squads of RAB and CMP and 12 drones were used in the operation. By applying modern technology and special tactics, the members of the joint force simultaneously conducted a combing operation in the remote hilly areas.
The operation was led by DIG of Chittagong Range (promoted to the rank of Additional IGP) Md. Ahsan Habib Palash, BPM-Services. At that time, CO of RAB-7 Lt. Col. Md. Hafizur Rahman, Additional DIG of Chittagong Range Md. Nazimul Haque and Chittagong District Superintendent of Police Mohammad Nazir Ahmed Khan were present on the spot to supervise the overall operation and provide necessary directions.
During the operation, a total of 22 people were arrested by searching various hilly and remote areas. During this time, the joint forces recovered 03 firearms (01 foreign pistol, 01 domestic pistol and 01 LG), 27 pipe guns, 30 pistol magazines, 57 weapon-making pipes, 61 cartridges, 1113 rounds of bullets of various types, 11 cocktails (explosives), a lathe machine for making pipe guns and a large amount of weapon-making equipment. In addition, 19 CCTV cameras, 03 DVRs, 01 power box and 02 binoculars were recovered, which are initially believed to have been used for surveillance activities by criminals. In the said joint operation, the network of criminal activities including the hideouts and weapons manufacturing factories of terrorists located in various hills of Alinagar area were destroyed. In addition, the activities of the watch towers set up on various entrances and hilltops of Alinagar were also dismantled. Because the criminals used these watch towers to monitor the movement of law and order forces.
There were no casualties during the operation and the overall situation is under full control of the law enforcement agencies. Legal action is being taken against the recovered evidence and the arrested accused.
After the operation, two temporary police camps have been set up in the Jangal Salimpur area to maintain law and order in the area, prevent criminals from regrouping and ensure the safety of the local people. Out of these, one camp at SM Pilot High School has a total of 130 members of the District Police and APBN and a total of 230 members of Ali Nagar High School RRF, APBN and RAB 7. In addition, check posts and police patrols have been increased in different areas of Jangal Salimpur. The joint force operation in Jangal Salimpur has brought relief to the local people. The people expressed their gratitude to the joint force.
Through this operation, it has been possible to control terrorist activities in the area, recover illegal weapons, weaken the network of criminals and establish state authority in the remote hilly areas. In addition, it will have a positive impact on the security of the local people and the improvement of the law and order situation. Necessary operations and surveillance activities will continue in the future to suppress crime, recover illegal weapons and maintain a stable law and order situation in the Salimpur forest area.
