Bangladesh government sends emergency relief assistance to people affected by earthquake in Afghanistan

Bangladesh government provides relief assistance to people affected by earthquake in Afghanistan 05 September 2025 (Friday): On 31 August 2025 at 2347 local time, a 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan. It is reported that at least 2205 people were killed, 3640 injured and more than 8000 houses were damaged in the earthquake. The earthquake in Afghanistan has created a humanitarian crisis due to food, water and shelter shortages and lack of emergency medical care. Bangladesh is deeply saddened by this humanitarian disaster in a friendly country.

On the instructions of the Honorable Chief Advisor, the Bangladesh government has taken initiatives to provide emergency humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people to deal with the sudden disaster caused by the earthquake. In continuation of this, today, 05 September 2025 at 0800 hrs, a transport aircraft of the Bangladesh Air Force will depart for Afghanistan with emergency relief materials and will return after handing over the relief materials. The 11.227 tons of relief aid sent today includes tents, blankets, cold clothes, drinking water, dry food, clothes, biscuits, milk powder, noodles and medicines.

Brigadier General Md. Alimul Amin, SUP, ndc, psc, Director General of the Operations and Planning Directorate of the Armed Forces Division, held a press briefing on this occasion. Senior officers of the Armed Forces Division and the Air Force, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representatives of various media were present at the time.

The Bangladesh Armed Forces believe that this humanitarian aid sent by the Bangladesh Government will play a helpful role in reducing the suffering of the people affected by the earthquake in Afghanistan. In the coming days, the Bangladesh Armed Forces are always committed to volunteering for any global need as per the government’s instructions.
