RAB will be restructured as a people-friendly and responsible force – Home Minister.
Md Babul bangladesh correspondent
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that RAB will be restructured as a people-friendly and responsible force in the coming days.
He said this in his speech as the chief guest at a program organized on the occasion of the 22nd founding anniversary of RAB Forces at the RAB Forces Headquarters in Uttara, the capital, on May 18, 2026.
The minister said that the current democratic government has taken various plans to restructure RAB as a people-friendly and responsible force. Notable among these are – to increase the capacity and efficiency of RAB members and to provide serious training on the use of minimum force, human rights training, use of AI (Al) in crime prevention, etc. while maintaining international standards while conducting various operations, and to this end, to establish a specialized training center for RAB Forces in Jungle Salimpur very soon; Further improving our capabilities and activities by adopting timely strategies considering the changing types and strategies of crime; gaining public trust by increasing engagement with the public; playing an effective role in building a safe and stable society by maintaining the standards of human rights, rule of law and professional ethics; expeditiously enacting the RAB law to ensure transparency and accountability, etc.
The minister also said that there is no institution of the government that was not damaged during the fascist government. The entire institution cannot be held responsible due to the illegal activities of a few officials of the institution. He said that the institutions should continue to work while maintaining their own reputation and glory. There will be no political interference from the government in this regard. It should be established to the whole world that all institutions in Bangladesh have responsibility and accountability. Through this, we want to establish the rule of law.
Salahuddin Ahmed said that there is a need for an elite force to quickly control and normalize the law and order situation in the country. In that regard, an initiative has been taken to change and amend the existing law of RAB to make it up-to-date and world-class so that transparency and accountability can be ensured along with the professionalism of the members of the elite force. At the same time, changing the existing name of RAB is also being considered.
Stating that RAB was established during the BNP government’s tenure in 2001, considering the need for an elite force to quickly control and maintain normal law and order, the minister said, RAB was used only for the purpose for which it was established. Later, during the fascist government, RAB was used to fulfill political vested interests. As a result, RAB as an institution has suffered.
Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Information, Policy and Strategy and Culture, was present as a special guest at the event. IGP Md. Ali Hossain Fakir delivered the welcome speech. RAB Director General Md. Ahsan Habib Palash delivered the welcome speech.
The chiefs of the three services, heads of various departments and organizations under the Ministry of Home Affairs, and various military and civilian officials were present at the event.
