Discussions on various issues of security and mutual cooperation Visiting Pakistani Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi met with Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed at Hotel Intercontinental in the capital on Friday afternoon, May 8, 2026.
The meeting, held in a very cordial atmosphere, discussed various issues of mutual interest between the two countries, especially regional security and capacity building of law enforcement agencies.
The ministers of both countries emphasized common interests in addressing regional security challenges. The two countries agreed to increase coordination and judicial cooperation between law enforcement agencies.
Emphasis was placed on intelligence sharing to prevent trafficking in persons (TIP) and illegal smuggling of migrants (SOM) and joint efforts to crack down on smuggling rings. In addition, discussions were held on increasing the protection of victims of trafficking and awareness programs.
The importance of the ‘Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters’ (MLAR) agreement was highlighted for the purpose of expeditious exchange of information and evidence in the investigation of criminal offenses. As a result, cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the prevention of cross-border crime will be strengthened. In addition, effective extradition mechanisms were discussed in various fields, including terrorism and financial crimes, so that criminals cannot escape from one country to another and evade justice.
It was proposed to increase the scope of training in modern policing and criminal investigation to enhance the efficiency of law enforcement agencies. The two ministers emphasized the importance of creating secure communication channels for exchanging intelligence, especially in combating cybercrime and organized crime.
The Home Minister called for increasing international support for the safe, voluntary and dignified repatriation of the Rohingyas. It was discussed in the meeting that Pakistan can play a role in increasing constructive international engagement with Myanmar in this regard.
Pakistan has proposed a draft agreement to prevent terrorism, drug trafficking, smuggling and forgery of documents. Bangladesh is currently reviewing the draft in light of the decision of the inter-ministerial meeting held on 27 October 2025. The meeting also discussed the current status of the document sent for the opinion of the Law Ministry on the release of three Pakistani prisoners recommended by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The meeting was attended by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Manzoor Morshed Chowdhury, Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, Pakistani High Commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Haider and other senior officials of the two countries. Both sides expressed their hope to continue such bilateral discussions and cooperation in the future.
