Large quantity of arms and ammunition recovered; 6 detained in special operation by Chakaria Police, Cox’s Bazar.

Acting under the directives of the current government, the police administration is working tirelessly to eradicate crime across the country. As part of an ongoing special operation against drugs, illegal weapons, robbery, and other crimes in Cox’s Bazar district, Chakaria Police conducted a raid on September 13, 2026. Acting on a tip-off that a group of miscreants had gathered at a residence in the West Chhanua Para area (Ward No. 9, Badarkhali Union) to commit robbery, an operational team from Chakaria Police Station swiftly moved in. They stealthily traversed two kilometers of rugged terrain on foot under the cover of darkness to surround the house. When a few individuals attempted to flee upon sensing the police presence, the team apprehended them, although several other unidentified robbers managed to escape. The individuals arrested at 21:40 hours on September 13, 2026, were Rajib alias ‘Shooter Rajib’ (26), Nomi Uddin alias ‘Nomi Dakat’ (40), Jashim Uddin alias ‘Jashu Dakat’ (26), Md. Sagar Rana alias ‘Shooter Sagar’ (20), and Jahura Begum (45).
Items recovered from the custody of the arrested individuals include:
1. One locally-made double-barrel rifle.
2. One locally-made single-barrel rifle.
3. One locally-made shotgun.
4. 58 rounds of rifle ammunition.
5. 55 rounds of pistol ammunition.
6. 2 live shotgun cartridges.
7. 2 spent shotgun cartridge shells.
8. One cleaning rod.
9. Equipment for manufacturing weapons and ammunition.

Substantial additional ammunition recovered in a subsequent second operation
Based on information obtained during the initial interrogation of the arrested individuals, a raid was conducted in the Halkacha Para area (Ward No. 4, Badarkhali Union). Sahar Banu (55) was arrested at 22:10 hours on September 13, 2026, after attempting to flee upon sensing the police’s presence. During the operation, 767 rounds of rifle ammunition were recovered from a white plastic sack kept in a pond behind her residence. Notably, a total of 825 rounds of rifle ammunition were recovered across the two operations—58 rounds in the first and 767 rounds in the second. Preliminary interrogation revealed that the arrested individuals were involved in manufacturing, buying, and selling arms and ammunition at the location, as well as renting out weapons to other bandits for robberies. Initial information indicates their involvement in highway robberies, as well as local and inter-district robbery activities within the Chakaria Police Station area. They were reportedly involved in planning and executing robberies at various locations—including fish farms—and used these weapons to terrorize the area and hold innocent people hostage. Furthermore, during preliminary questioning, they admitted to participating in organized robberies across various areas of the Chattogram Division. Operations to arrest other members involved in these incidents are ongoing. Preliminary reports indicate that the arrested individuals face multiple charges related to robbery, murder, and other offenses. Separate cases are being filed against them under the Arms Act for the illegal possession of weapons and ammunition, and under relevant laws for conspiracy to commit robbery and unlawful assembly with the intent to rob.
