In March, 2020 the COVID-19 pandemic was officially declared by the World Health Organization. Since that time the lifestyle of many people has changed dramatically. Unfortunately, it affected doctors and nurses the most.

Monitoring the labor market and the education market of nurses training in Ukraine has showed that health care reform with its reorientation towards improving primary health care and family medicine implementation put new demands on the quality of training of health professionals, including nurses. In Ukraine there are more than 435,000 healthcare workers. The total number of nurses in Ukraine is 64.8 per 10 thousands of population and 1.8 for one doctor. Personnel shortage of nurses reached almost 14 thousands. Rational use of the same nursing staff will significantly improve the quality, availability and cost of medical care to the population, efficient use of resources in health care and disease prevention. That’s why nowadays nursing is one of the most in-demand professions.

Formation of market relations and healthcare reform in Ukraine according to the Concept of Public Health of Ukraine, required to review the content of nursing education towards its integration into the international system, extending the scope of nursing activities based on the new features due to the new socio-economic conditions.

Due to the high demand for nurses today, there is also a need for their quality training. One of the institutions which provide nurses training is Andrei Krupynskyi Lviv Medical Academy, Ukraine. It is one of the oldest higher educational institutions not only in Ukraine, but also in Europe. It was established in 1773 and 247th anniversary was celebrated on October 1, 2020.

Nowadays the Academy provides training of the future professionals in the following specialties: nursing; technologies of medical diagnostics and treatment; dentistry; orthopedic dentistry; pharmacy, industrial pharmacy. Moreover, the Academy has received a license to train international students and this year the first intake of students from all around the world will take place.

The work of a nurse is constantly changing to provide patients with the best possible care. There is no definitive answer to the question of what kind of nurse you should be, but knowing what opportunities open up during your training will help determine which choice is best for each student. In order to provide students with more learning opportunities there was signed an agreement between Andrei Krupynskyi Lviv Medical Academy (Ukraine) and KLINIK BAVARIA Kreischa Qualifizierung GmbH (Germany). According to this agreement students of the Academy are given opportunities to study the German language free of charge and go to a nursing practice/ internship in clinics of Germany with receiving a certificate.

In December 2018, the Academy became one of the winners of the Ukrainian-Swiss project “The Development of Medical Education in Ukraine”, which will last until the end of 2022. This project allows to introduce a wide range of innovations, improve teaching methods and strengthen the institutional capacity of the Academy.

As part of this project, it is planned to open a simulation center at the Academy, where students can acquire basic clinical skills of family medicine using modern equipment.

Currently the educational process at the Academy is provided by scientific and pedagogical sfaff, including 3 full professors, 20 associate professors, 5 DSci, 40 Phd degrees holders. The scientific and pedagogical staff of our Academy does their best to achieve our main goal – training of a highly qualified specialist. The Academy offers their students positive learning environment and friendly atmosphere. It gives their students opportunities for acquiring good medical knowledge, practical skills; involve them to international educational exchange programs.
