Two Detained with 2,000 Yaba Tablets and Weapons in Operation by Chattogram’s Lohagara Police

Two individuals have been detained in an operation conducted by the Lohagara Police Station in Chattogram, found in possession of 2,000 pieces of banned Yaba tablets, an illegal firearm, magazines, and ammunition.
On September 11, 2026, at approximately 01:20 AM, a Foton pickup truck (Registration: Chattogram Metro-Na-12-0634) was intercepted during a checkpoint operation in front of the Chunati Range Officer’s office under Lohagara Police Station. Subsequently, while searching the vehicle, police recovered a bundle wrapped in white polythene—which had been cleverly concealed in a pocket behind the driver’s seat—based on the information provided by the detainees and their own actions in retrieving it.
Inside the bundle, authorities recovered 2,000 Yaba tablets, a functional 7.65mm pistol (engraved with “Made in USA”), two magazines, and 13 rounds of ammunition. The individuals arrested in connection with this incident are: 1. Md. Tarekul Islam (26), son of Md. Abul Kalam, and 2. Md. Rashedul Islam alias Rubel (38), son of Ahmed Ali; both are residents of Khurushkul, Ward No. 6, Sadar Police Station, Cox’s Bazar District.
During preliminary interrogation, the arrestees revealed that they were traveling from the Khurushkul area of Cox’s Bazar to Riazuddin Bazar in Chattogram city. They were transporting the Yaba and the firearm for sale in collusion with an individual named Mamun from the same area. Mamun had already traveled to Chattogram city by bus to receive the narcotics and the weapon. Police intelligence operations and raids are ongoing to arrest the fugitive Mamun and to identify and bring to justice others involved with him.
Under the directives of the Chattogram District Police, regular checkpoints, searches, and special operations are being conducted as part of a strict stance against narcotics, illegal weapons, and criminals. Such operations will be further intensified in the future to ensure public safety, curb the proliferation of drugs and illegal weapons, and uphold the overall law and order situation in the district. The process of taking further legal action under existing laws regarding the narcotics and weapons recovered in this incident is currently underway.
