On November 3, 2024, at approximately 03:45 am, the victim Monir Ahmed, the father of the police constable, was shot in the Pattachari Ghona area of Maheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar district. He died in the hospital 03 hours later. In this incident, the victim’s wife filed a complaint against 14 people and filed a case No. 10, dated 05/11/2024 under Section 302/34 of the Penal Code with Maheshkhali Police Station. The police station conducted a long investigation for 9 months. During the investigation, the police station arrested 05 accused and 06 accused surrendered to the learned court. On the instructions of the Police Headquarters, the investigation of the case was entrusted to the PBI Cox’s Bazar District and Police Inspector Md. Riaz Uddin Chowdhury took over the investigation of the case.
Under the direction of PBI Chief Additional IGP Mr. Mustafa Kamal, under the supervision of PBI Cox’s Bazar District Unit In-charge Police Superintendent Mr. Mohammad Matiar Rahman, the investigating officer of the case, Police Inspector Mohammad Riaz Uddin Chowdhury, brought the accused Joynal Abedin (41) under the complaint number 01 on a 02-day remand and interrogated him. During the interrogation, he confessed to his involvement in the incident and gave a confessional statement. According to the information provided by him, on 21/09/2025, the accused Md. Akkas (37), who was found involved in the incident during the investigation, was arrested and he gave a confessional statement.
Based on the evidence obtained during the PBI investigation, and the statements given by the accused under Section 164 of the Penal Code, it was revealed that the accused Joynal is an accused sentenced to 4 years in the much-discussed BDR murder case. He was released in 2016 after serving his sentence. A civil case was going on with a dispute with one Anwar Ali Chowdhury over his ancestral land in Pattachari Ghona, Saitmara Sakin. The victim Monir Ahmed used to do a fish project by taking the land in question on lease from the heirs of the said Anwar Ali Chowdhury. When the accused Joynal Abedin shared various conversations related to his civil case with his partners, the victim Monir Ahmed would tell the heirs of Anwar Ali Chowdhury. So to punish him, he and his two business partners planned to beat the victim. As per the plan, on 03/11/2024 AD. On the orders of the accused Joynal, 10/11 people went to the fish project of Monir Ahmed at approximately 03.45 am, and the accused Afsar shot him (Monir) and fled. The incident took a different turn and, using a tactic to disprove the suspicion of his involvement, accused Joynal himself, with the help of some of his associates, first took Monir Ahmed to Badarkhali Hospital. Later, he was admitted to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex. He died at approximately 06.00 in the morning. A review of the statement given by accused Akkas revealed that Joynal called him 3/4 days before the incident and told him about the plan. On the day of the incident, 10/11 people including accused Akkas, Nurul Afsar, Khokon went to Monir Ahmed’s fish project on the date and time of the incident and accused Afsar shot him (Monir) and fled.
The investigation into the case is ongoing. Efforts are underway to arrest the other absconding accused involved in the murder.
