Bangladeshi Major General Mohammad Asadullah Minhajul Alam appointed as Force Commander of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP)

09 April 2026 United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres today announced the appointment of Major General Mohammad Asadullah Minhajul Alam (Bangladesh) as Force Commander of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP).

Major General Minhajul Alam succeeds Major General Erdenbat Batsuri of Mongolia, whose dedication and service the Secretary-General expressed his deep appreciation for.

Major General Minhajul Alam comes to this position with over 30 years of leadership and command experience in the Bangladesh Army. He recently joined the Army Training and Doctrine Command as General Officer Commanding. Earlier, he served as General Officer Commanding, 10 Infantry Division and Cox’s Bazar. Served as Area Commander (2024-2026) and Commandant of the Defence Forces Command and Staff College (2024).
