Special recognition from the State of Georgia in recognition of Bangladesh’s commendable contribution to UN peacekeeping missions

Dhaka, 02 April 2026: Chief of Army Staff General Waqar-uz-Zaman, SBP, OSP, SGP, PSC, was presented with a special resolution from the State of Georgia on Tuesday (31 March 2026) in recognition of the commendable contribution of Bangladeshi peacekeepers to UN peacekeeping missions. The Governor of the US State of Georgia, Mr. Brian P. Kemp, presented the award to the Chief of Army Staff at a formal session of the Senate.

 

The Georgia State Senate, with the support of both Republican and Democratic parties, formally recognized and appreciated the important contribution of Bangladeshi peacekeepers working in UN peacekeeping missions worldwide through this resolution. Senator Sheikh Rahman of Bangladeshi origin played an important role in the formulation of this resolution.

 

Earlier on Tuesday morning, the Chief of Army Staff met with the Governor of Georgia, Mr. Brian P. Kemp at his office. In this bilateral meeting, they discussed various military-related issues. Then, the Bangladesh delegation led by the Army Chief participated in the Senate session. During this time, he also met with the Lieutenant Governor of Georgia, Mr. Burt Jones.

 

It is worth noting that the Army Chief visited the United States on an official visit on 28 March 2026.
